Recently, a group of us – myself included – decided to delve into the world of aftermarket leather straps, specifically focusing on their compatibility with the 16710 and other vintage and modern Rolex models. The tropic strap, named for its resemblance to the original Rolex tropic rubber straps of the past, isn't just a simple leather band. Its design elements carefully consider the nuances of watch wear. The subtle texturing also adds a touch of visual interest, complementing the watch's own sophisticated design without overpowering it. Our testing involved several vintage and modern Rolex models: the 1675 GMT-Master, the 1603 Datejust, the 5513 Submariner, the 16800 Submariner Date, and the 14060M Submariner. The results were consistently positive. The versatility of the black tropic strap was striking. It seamlessly integrated with the aesthetic of each watch, demonstrating its adaptability across different Rolex designs and eras.
On the 1675 GMT-Master, a watch known for its rugged charm and vintage appeal, the leather strap provided a pleasing contrast.
